Biographical history

Frank A. Braun was born at Strassburg, West Reserve, MB on March 25, 1897 to Abram and Katharina (Heinrichs) Braun. He was baptized in 1916 and became a member of the Bergthler Mennonite Church in Altona. Frank worked in Altona in dray work and later for the town maintenance crew. Frank was known as the strongest man in Altona. Both Frank and Tina went independently to find work in St. Catharines, Ontario where they met. In 1916, they married. Nine children were born, five sons: Ed, Henry, Abe, Frank, Jake, and one daughter, Tina. Three children died in infancy.
Frank was an active member of the Lister West School Board. Frank passed away in October, 1981 in Altona, Manitoba.

Biographical history

Katharina was born in Neubergthal, West Reserve, MB on February 12, 1897 to Heinrich and Helena (Klassen) Friesen. Her mother died in infancy so she was cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Johann Hamm. When her father re-married she returned to her parental home in Neubergthal. She was baptized in 1916 into the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church and in the same year married Frank Braun. As older adults, they were part of a group that sang at various community locations such as the hospital.
Tina Braun joined the Bergthaler Church, Altona in 1940. Tina passed away in September, 1981 at the Altona Hospital.

This fonds consists of diaries, family history, photographs, and an inheritance document. The diaries are written by both Tina Braun and her husband Frank Braun and document their lives as mature adults living in the Altona, Manitoba area. The photographs deal with fruit production in the St. Catharines area.
