May flood victims

The persons in the three coffins were flood victims. In the coffins (left to right): Grandfather Jacob Thiessen, Mother Justina (Thiessen) Friesen, baby Haenschen Friesen and his sister Helena Friesen are in the third coffin on the right. Standing behind the coffins (left to right) : Martin Friesen, (Father), and to the far right is son Jacob.

This slide show consists of 116 color slides depicting a flood in [Malaysia?]. Included are photos of the flood effects in rural and urban areas. The material was put together by Amed. -- Note: slide 83 is missing. There was an audio cassette with this material however upon review there was nothing audible on the cassette and therefore discarded.

MDS - Flooding in California

This photo is of homes in southern California that are surrounded by water. In the background, a few cars can be seen on the street. A person can be seen approaching the first house walking through water that is quite shallow. A car is parked on the first driveway. The description on the back reads, "Streets are natural channels for the surplus waters. These photos were taken when access by car was still possible. Later, police citing sightseers."

Mennonite Church under flood

In the spring of 1948 most of Greendale was flooded after a dyke on the Fraser River broke and water covered a large part of the Greendale area, including the Mennonite church shown in this photo --the First Mennonite Church (Greendale).
