-married Wilma L. Regier in 1952 in Tiefengrund, Saskatchewan

-had Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) assignments in Europe and South America, 1945-1951
-studied at Bethel College (North Newton, Kansas), University of Wichita (Kansas) and University of Chicago (Illinois)
-served at Mennonite Biblical Seminary and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), 1954-1989 -- researching, publishing and teaching Anabaptist and Mennonite history
-served as executive secretary of Mennonite World Conference, 1961-1973
-named Professor Emeritus of Anabaptist and Sixteenth-century Studies when he retired in 1989 from AMBS.
