History

European Ministries of the Conference of Mennonites in Canada traces its beginning to the 1970s.
It was in the early 1970s that the return of cultural German soviet citizens, to Germany greatly accelerated (referred to as "Umsiedler") A motion was passed in 1975 by the delegate to explore the subject of ministering to these people in Germany. By 1978 there was a fund established for this purpose and in 1984 the "Umsiedler/Kirchliche Ministries Committee" appeared in the CMC Yearbook. This committee was renamed European Ministries in 1986. Initially it reported directly to General Board. In 1994 it came under the jurisdiction of the Ministries Commission.
