Biographical history

Clarence J. Ramer was born May 30, 1905, in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1917 he moved with his parents to Duchess, Alberta, Canada. After spending a couple years at EMS, he returned to Duchess where in 1929 he was ordained to the ministry by lot. In 1931 he married Ethel Matin of Duchess. His church work often kept him away from home. He was instrumental in the Alberta-Saskatchewan Conference, Winter Bible School, and Mennonite Church General Conference. He also worked in various Mennonite educational institutions: Hesston Bible School, 1946; Western Mennonite School, 1956-57, and Rosedale Bible Institute, 1970-79. He was a prominent pioneer rancher in the area working mostly in the dairy business.

Institutional materials bearing no C. J. Ramer notations were taken from this collection and incorporated into the institutions' collection. Approximately 1/2 of a large box both of Alberta-Saskatchewan and Mennonite Church General Conference material was thus removed. Other material removed amount to 1/4 of a large box and consisted of materials belonging to other conferences and churches. Approximately 50-75 church bulletins were also removed to the bulletin collection.
