Note
A second copy of this photograph is located in Hist.Mss.1.293, Peter Gortz file, Lucy Braun fonds, Mennonite Archives of Ontario. Braun identified this photo as a funeral picture of Henry H. Gortz and Mary (Voth) Gortz's son Henry (or Heinrich), taken in New Hamburg in 1933. Young Henry (1922-1933), broke through the ice of the Nith River and drowned on 2 Jan 1933. Braun identifies the children as the Sunday School of the church of the Russian Mennonite immigrants ("Sonntagsschule Mennonite Kirche von Russland Auswandern"). Since this death and funeral took place in January, it is unlikely that this photograph is of this event.
