Scope and content

Personal papers of a Mennonite psychotherapist with professional expertise in trauma recovery, personal and communal healing, and pastoral boundary issues. Heggen is the author of Sexual Abuse in Christian Homes and Churches (1993) and a frequent presenter nationally and internationally.

In the early 1990s she played a crucial role in bringing John Howard Yoder's repeated violation of women to light by facilitating communication among women who had been violated by Yoder, and by calling upon church authorities to hold Yoder accountable for his actions.  Heggen is also a co-developer and co-presenter of Mennonite Women USA's Sister Care seminars.

Materials in this collection include selected sermons, lectures, workshops, and presentations, reviews of and correspondence received in response to her book on sexual abuse in Christian environments, correspondence and other documents pertaining to the 1992 complaint against John Howard Yoder's sexual misconduct, subject files pertaining to her work with United Mission to Nepal and Mennonite Central Committee, photographs, and miscellaneous materials.
