Arnold C. Schultz was born 16 August 1904 near Langham, Saskatchewan, the son of Rev. George P. Schultz and Minnie Ratzlaff Schultz. The family moved to Chicago when Arnold was 6 years old. He "was converted and yielded in full surrender to the Lord at the age of 21." He graduated from a two-year Bible course at the Moody Bible Institute in 1927. He later completed BA and MA degrees at the University of Chicago and BD and ThD degrees at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Old Testament. On 2 September 1931 Arnold married Beatrice Pancoska. They have one daughter Carla, born 31 July 1939. From 1937 to 1944 he taught at Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio, and was pastor of the Ebenezer church at Bluffton from 1941-1944. He taught at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1944-1967 and at Roosevelt University in Chicago from 1967 to about 1977. In addition to teaching, he was also involved in a number of archaeological digs. Arnold C. Schultz died 15 May 1988 in Tucson, Arizona.

The Arnold Schultz papers are in a rather jumbled condition, but have been kept in their original order and with the original folder labels. Some folders were unlabelled. Others had only partially legible labels; these are marked with a (?). A few folders contain material other than what is mentioned on the label. The papers consist primarily of material on the history of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren and on the family history of Arnold Schultz's ancestors. The most significant part of the EMB material relates to the settlement and early church disputes of Henderson, Nebraska, and Mountain Lake, Minnesota. There are a good number of original documents, including papers relating to the H. C. Bartel mission in China, the memoirs of Gerhard Klassen (born in Prussia and died in the United States), papers relating to Isaac Peters (an early leader at Henderson, Nebraska), and a set of "German documents from Culm" (probably relating to Schultz genealogy).
