This photo shows 24 Mennonite men posing with the tools for planting trees. This group was called into service on 1 Aug 1915 at Alt Berdyansk and then transferred to the Asov forestry camp where they served till the end of the First World War.

This is a photo of the Old Berdjansk Forestry. The command goes to work. In the spring of 1881 the first group of Mennonite boys began its military service. At first they had to serve four years, later on three. About one thousand boys served. In the summer of 1914, just before the beginning of the war, 1204 men were serving in nine forestries and one extra command. [HR 230] (2 prints)
