Mennonite Environmental Task Force

  • Corporate body

The Mennonite Environmental Task Force was formed following a resolution passed at the joint meeting of the Mennonite Church and the General Conference Mennonite Church at Urbana, Illinois in 1989.

The Task Force was sponsored by both denominations and overseen by the Mennonite Board of Congregatinoal Ministries and the Board of Home Ministries.

Addressing environmental and ecological concerns for both denominations, the Task Force promoted environmental awareness, conducted studies to determine environmental interests and needs of Mennonites, and considered the role of environmentalism in Mennonite life, theology, and worship.

The Task Force was disbanded after the merger of Mennonite Church and General Conference Mennonite Church into Mennonite Church USA in 2002.  The work of the Task Force was taken over by the Creation Care Network.
