Jacob Rempel was born in Blumenort, Mexico in 1936, Jake Rempel married Katharina Wiebe in 1959. The couple moved with their children to the Rainy River area in Ontario, Canada before moving to a hobby farm in Blumenort, Manitoba in 1965. Jake grew up working in his father's print shop in Mexico and quickly found work at the printery, Friesens Corporation in Altona. Tina Rempel died January 24, 1988 and Jake Rempel died December 8, 2020.

Tina Rempel was born Katharina Wiebe on April 26, 1939 in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico to David Wiebe and Anna Krahn, Katharina married Jacob Rempel in 1959. Jake and Tina moved to Canada with their children in 1965 making a home on a hobby farm in Blumenort, Manitoba. They had five children, with four being born in Mexico. Tina died in 1988.

Cornelius "Neil" Friesen was born in Gretna, MB on 14 April, 1903 to Abraham Friesen and Anna Sawatzky. in 1938 he married Ethel McLeod in Winnipeg and they had two daughters. In 1938 the family moved from Winnipeg to Elie, Manitoba to take over managing of a lumber company. In 1948 the family moved back to Winnipeg. He is best known as the founder of Bridge Drive-In (BDI), an ice cream shop in Winnipeg established in 1958. Friesen retired and sold the business in 1964. In his retirement Cornelius Friesen enjoyed sports such as golf and curling. In curling he was an early adopter (inventor?) of using statistics according to a Winnipeg Tribune article.

Founded by Cornelius "Niel" Friesen in 1957, Bridge Drive-In (BDI) is a popular seasonal ice cream stand in Winnipeg. Its name comes from its location near the Elm Park Bridge across the Red River, commonly known as the BDI Bridge today.
