Biographical history
Born 7 June 1884 in Tiegenhagen, West Prussia. Parents Abraham Esau and Agnes Regier. Corps student. 1908 PhD in physics from University of Berlin. 1912 went to work for Telefunken. Interned during World War 1 in French North Africa. Exchanged in 1917. 1925 became full professor of applied physics at University of Jena. Worked in the areas of shortwave radio, radar, medical applications of radio waves. Joined NSDAP 1933. Rektor of University of Jean during 1930s. 1939 left Jena for the Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt in Berlin. Possibly involved in German atomic bomb project.
1945-1948 imprisoned in Netherlands as suspected war criminal. During this time he translated C. Henry Smith's <em>Story of the Mennonites</em> into German. After World War 2, various appointments, many honorary. Died 12 May 1955 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
