Scope and content

This is a 1917 photo of the Kehler family (left to right): Susannah, Greta, Anna, mother Agatha, Jack, father Johann, Katherina, Justina, and Maria. In the portrait the family is grouped outdoors, around a table covered with a crocheted tablecloth on which is arranged a candle, a vase, and an animal ornament. Each girl’s dress is adorned with crocheted lace. Three of the sisters—Susannah, Katherina, and Maria—hold stringed instruments while Greta holds a book. Anna’s hand rests on the shoulder of her
mother and Justina’s hand on the shoulder of her sister. The youngest is Jack, the only boy, standing between his mother and father. See page 137 in Daughters in the House of Jacob.
