This is a photo of students from the school for girls at Halbstadt. Sitting at the right in the white blouse is Margarethe Kroeker, now Winnipeg. At the bottom to the right is Mariechen Dyck who was later an instructress in the High School; she came to Paraguay where she, like all women, had to work very hard. Others had a similar fate. This is a photo of the first building of the Halbstadt Central School, built 1835. After a number of years this building was replaced by another one. [HR 182]

The third building of the Halbstadt Central School, erected 1895. It still stands and serves today as office for the local party organization. The fence in front of the building is no more. [HR 182]

Grandfather David Friesen on ladder to right - third from bottom, about 1898." The photograph was probably taken at the teacher training school in Halbstadt, the Halbstadt Zentralschule. The equipment may have been used for exercise or physical training.
