Biographical history
Fred Engen was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States. He became employed by American banker Samuel McRoberts and became a key player in the migration of Mennonites from Manitoba and Saskatchewan to Paraguay in the 1926-1929 move. He died in Paraguay and is buried there.

The photo shows the Johann Kehler residential house in Halbstadt. The log framed house has a corrugated metal roof and is made of clay bricks. Vining plants which have been led to grow up to the roof, cover a large portion thereof. [Johann Kehler and his first wife, Katharina Sawatzky, are pictured in front of their home with their five children.]
