History

Heinrich Goerz was born in Schoensee, Molotschna. After graduating ca. 1909 from the Mennonite Realschule in Berdiansk, he taught in the Memrik colony for several years. From 1914-1917 he performed alternative service without salary as a teacher in an agricultural school for orphans in the province of Perm beyond the Ural mountains. Goerz emigrated to Canada in 1926 and became a prominent minister. He also was known as a poet and published a collection of his poems as <i>Gedicht.</i> He wrote several books in the Echo Verlag series: Molotschna (1951), Memrik (1954) and Crimea (1957). He died in 1972 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
