Biographical history
Fred Engen was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States. He became employed by American banker Samuel McRoberts and became a key player in the migration of Mennonites from Manitoba and Saskatchewan to Paraguay in the 1926-1929 move. He died in Paraguay and is buried there.

The photo shows the homestead of Gerhard K. Doerksen in Gnadenfeld. Gerhard and Margaretha Doerksen are at the center of the picture [surrounded by their five children]. They are standing next to a wagon, with two horses standing behind them and two dogs lying nearby. In the background there is a clay brick structure with a thatched roof, a second wagon and on the right a wooden framed structure under construction.
