Biographical history
Franz H. Letkemann (1898-1987) was born to Heinrich F. Letkemann (1854-1906) and Katharina Wiebe (1865-1920) in South Russia. Franz married Katarina Kroeker (1901-1993) in 1920. They emigrated to Canada in 1923. Like many others they incurred a travel debt. Letkemann was elected as a lay minister of the Mennonite congregation in Graysville by the Schoenwiese Gemeinde of Manitoba in 1945, and continued to serve this congregation after it joined the Bergthaler Gemeinde of Manitoba in 1953. He retired from farming in 1960 and moved to Winkler. He was active in the Winkler Bergthaller Mennonite Church and formally retired from preaching in the church in 1968. Until shortly before his death in 1986, he continued a ministry of visitation, leading prayer meetings and bible studies in the senior citizens home in Winkler.
