Biographical history

Frank K. Isaac, educator and minister, was born at Schoeneberg, Ukraine on 24 March 1923, son of Franz and Agenetha Isaac. He immigrated to Canada in 1925 and settled on a farm in the Silberfeld district in Manitoba. He began teaching at Lowe Farm and taught in the Shakespeare School District, and later in Steinbach. He was called and ordained as a minister in 1956 when he accepted the role of assistant minister in Steinbach Mennonite Church. In 1962 he became their lead minister and also their first salaried minister, a position he held till 1975. From 1975 to 1988 he was pastor of the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church in Winnipeg.

With the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba, Frank K. Isaac participated as a board member of the Camp Committee (1957-1959), was on the Sunday School Committee (1958-1966),and served as vice-Chair of the Conference (1967-1968), as Secretary of the Conference (1970-1971), as Chair of the Elim Bible School Board (1975-1979) and as a member of the Program/Nominating Committee (1983-1986).

With the Conference of Mennonites in Canada, Frank Isaac served as a member of the Canadian Mennonite Bible College board (1973-1982) and as Manitoba board member for Mennonite Central Committee (1987-1988).

Frank and his wife Susan served with Mennonite Central Committee in Germany working with with Mennonite immigrants from the Soviet Union (Umsiedler) (1988-1989). In his retirement he remained active as a voluntary chaplain in several hospitals and with a visitation ministry to seniors.

Frank K. Isaac died at Winnipeg on 14 November 2010.

Archival history

The material was received by Anna Ens from Frank Isaac as research material for her history of the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba entitled, In Search of Unity. The materials were deposited with the archives upon the completion of that project.
