History

First Mennonite Church in Edmonton was founded in 1959 with 24 charter members. Meetings were first held in 1950 and attracted rural students who had come to the urban centre for university education. They met in rented facilities. In 1966 they built their own meeting house. The membership was 91 in 1966. A children's choir was founded in 1968. In 1972 the membership was 100. A day care programme was begun in their meeting house in 1980. In 1980-1981 they formed another congregation, Faith Mennonite Church. In 1986 the membership was 147. In 1996 they built a new meeting house and moved into this facility in 1997. In 2000 the membership was 172.
