Ephrata Cloister

The Martyrs Mirror was translated into German and printed by a non-Mennonite religious sect at the Ephrata Cloister in ephrata, Pennsylvania in 1769-1780. It was a tremendous folio volume of 1,482 pages in fine calf binding., an extraordinary achievement in those pioneer days in a frontier wilderness village. It was the largest book published in the American colonies before the Revolutionary War.
