This is a photo of a two-week supply of food arriving at La Bermuda camp in El Salvador, where MCC supported CESAD has cooperated with the Green Cross. The Green Cross is an independent Salvadoran organization that has been most successful in aiding some of the country's neediest refugees, those in guerrilla-controlled areas.

Standing in the ruins (El Salvador)

This is a photo of a Salvadoran peasant standing in the ruins of his home. The army had burned it and others nearby out of suspicion that area residents sympathized with guerrilla opposition. Women, children and elderly died. "The Face of Change in Central America" is a new MCC study resource that focuses on the needs and sufferings of Central America's poor.

This is a photo of a peasant woman and her children in front of their new adobe brick house in La Florida. As a result of the massacre in which her husband was killed she fled from the cooperative and was last seen in a displaced persons' camp in eastern El Salvador.

This is a photo of three children in a camp for displaces persons in El Salvador. They cannot remember a time when their country was at peace. The U. S. government wants to send $60 million to buy more guns. Church leaders are calling for dialogue and negotiations between the government and the opposition forces.

Refugees in El Salvador

This is a photo of a man holding a naked child with more children behind him. In the background is a clothesline with laundry and simple houses. These people are some of the 600 refugees living in Guazapa, El Salvador. The local Beachy Amish Mennonite Church, along with Amish Mennonite Aid and MCC, is the only group aiding refugees in this location.

Displaced people in El Salvador

This is a photo of a displaced Salvadoran mother, victim of the civil war, giving her child a drink of milk at the nutrition centre set up by the Beachy Amish church and Mennonite Central Committee in Guazapa, El Salvador. The Swiss Mennonite Church Christmas project provided funding to support the Guazapa project for one year.
