History

The Coaldale Mennonite Church was founded in 1928 in Coaldale, Alberta. Eleven families were charter members. They used rented facilities for worship. In 1931 they began to build their own meeting house but only completed the basement. The membership was 49 in 1931. The rest of the building was completed in the winter of 1936-1937. In 1948 the membership was 136. In 1949 this meeting house was enlarged. In 1954 the membership was 288. In 1958 a new larger meeting house was built. In 1960 the membership was 311. Later an education wing was added. The membership remained at just over 300 until 2001 when it was 324, the year the congregation withdrew from the Conference of Mennonites in Canada.
