Used in CM 16-17-1. Statue (monument) & gravestone for Johann Bartsch, 18thC. Mennonite leader in Prussia & Russia. The monument was to be brought to Canada to the museum. C.f. 1994-14.1833.

This is a replacement memorial stone for John C. Snyder and Catharine Shantz, installed in 1982. Below an image of two horses pulling a Conestoga wagon, and the name "SNYDER," the stone reads:
"John C. Snyder 1792-1834, Catharine Shantz 1792-1854. John C. Snyder was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. In 1806 he emigrated to Canada with his parents Christian O. and Elizabeth Schneider who are buried in Doon Cemetery. In 1814 he married Catharine Shantz. They resided north of Hespeler where John died of cholera in 1834. Their family consisted of nine children: Levi, Absalom, Hannah, Samuel, Amos, Elizabeth, Nancy, Christian, and Rebecca. Erected by their descendants in 1982."

Description on slide reads "Tobias Wanner memorial stone." However, this is the grave stone of his wife, Catherine (Strycker) Wanner (1798-1892) at the Wanner Mennonite Church cemetery.

This stone and plaque were installed in 1929 to commemorate one hundred years since the establishment of a union meetinghouse and school in 1829. The plaque reads:"On August 8, 1829, local citizens of Waterloo Township selected this site for a community meeting house, school and burial ground, the first school in this vicinity. The land was donated March 15, 1830 by Samuel Bechtel. He and John Baer were appointed builders, Abraham Witmer and John Groh, the first trustees. Tablet placed by the Waterloo Historical Society 1929."

This photo is of five men visiting the grave of Jakob Zhidkov in Russia. The grave has a tall headstone and is surrounded by a white fence. The description on the back says, "l. to r. Michael Zhidkov, Victor Krieger, Frank C. Peters, Ilya Orlov, and Adolfs Klaupiks. At the grave of his parents, Michael Zhidkov and his friends pause for a moment to reflect on the leadership which his father, Jakob Zhidkov, had given the Baptist Church in Russia for many years. When he died in 1966, William Snyder, Adolfs Klaupiks, Frank Peters, and David Neufeld attended his funeral".
