This is a photo of workers in Porto Amazones taking a break from repairing a widow's house. Henrique Heinrichs, a farmer from Witmarsum Colony, is in the centre. Herman Neufeld, AMAS administrative director, is on the far right. The others are local Brazilians helping in the reconstruction effort.

Building a brick wall

This is a photo of workers building a brick wall on the site of a Sudan Council of Churches primary health care clinic for displaced mothers and children who have fled drought, famine or civil unrest near their homes. Two MCCers are helping the Council of Churches start this program in Khartoum that will serve displaced people in 14 areas.

Building a latrine in Bangladesh

This is a photo of a mason in Bangladesh building a low-cost latrine for a family in Saidpur. In the background a simple dwellings made of matting with thatch roofs. In 1983 MCC built and converted more than 400 latrines as part of its Saidpur sanitation program.

Building homes in Haiti

This photo is of Haitian men making cement blocks for the construction of homes in the area hit by Hurricane Inez. Mennonite Disaster Service sent two teams to aid in the construction of the homes.
