Caption in album by Anne Eby Millar: "In April 1916 the 118th Battalion was stationed on Courtland Ave., Kitchener. Local schoolchildren marched to their headquarters to bring them Easter eggs. Always fond of children, Gordon took this opportunity to get some pictures."

Caption in Risk and Endurance: "Mary Snyder, [sic] active in church and community." She was the matron of the Berlin Orphanage (beginning in 1896) and the first president of the Stirling Women's Missionary Society.

Caption in Risk and Endurance: "Berlin (First) Mennonite Church, 1913. Stirling would be built "up the hill" behind this church."

Pictured are four generations of women. Mother Mary Ann (Lachman) Schott (1876-1944) holds infant Phoebe Schott. The two older women seated on either side are grandmother Phoebe (Eby) Lachman (1849-1916) and great-grandmother Lucy (Hembling) Eby (1822-1910).

Caption by Anne Eby Millar: "Gordon visited Uncle Isaac (another son of Isaac Eby) on Nov. 1st in New Hamburg. Uncle Isaac was a "Tunkert" and would not have his picture taken, but one day when he visited them Gordon took his picture without his knowledge. In 1914 Uncle Isaac's health was failing. He died in February, 1915."
"Tunkert" is possibly Tunker (Brethren in Christ) or Dunkard/Tunkard (Church of the Brethren). Isaac Eby had a Mennonite funeral and was buried at the First Mennonite cemetery, Berlin.

Caption by Anne Eby Millar: "In September, 1915 relatives and friends gathered to wish Gordon well after he joined the overseas battalion. They presented him with a watch."

Caption on back by Gordon Eby: "Easter 1916 for the 21st Battalion, Courtland Ave., Kitchener. children bring Easter egg and gifts." The children are walking down the street carrying baskets.
