This is a dark photo of the AMR headquarters in Alexandrovsk. Caption written by Arthur Slagel - The upstairs windows in sight look out from my room. The window on the extreme right below is my "sanction". The corner room is the main office. On the left - the dining room windows. Above, the guest room. This building was formerly the Dyck house. This photo shows (l-r) Mrs. Justina (John) Dyck, unknown girl, Mr. & Mrs. Schellenberg with their son Jake sitting between them. Schellenberg was a teacher in Schoenwiese, Russia and a minister in Hanley, Saskatchewan until his death. This photo was used by a 1995 MCC Calendar and submitted to the MH in 1998 but not used.

This is a photo of Julius Siemens and Mathilde (nee Janzen) Siemens from Schoenwiese, who served as chaueffeur for the American Mennonite Relief workers in Russia in 1923. It includes their young daughter, Matilde (Tillie), wearing a checkered dress and a ribbon in her hair. The photograph was given to Arthur Slagel in May, 1923.

Family Portrait of S. and H. Martins, Alexandrovsk, Ukraine

This is a photo of S. Martins and H. Martins who assisted the American Mennonite Relief workers in Russia in 1923. The children are a daughter, wearing a large bow in her hair, and a toddler son. The photograph was given to Arthur Slagel in May, 1923, in memory of their relief work and the many difficulties they were able to overcome through their united efforts.

This is a photo of an open area lined with goods (unable to identify) on two sides and people dressed in winter clothing walking alongside, as well as horse-drawn wagons. Some buildings are seen in the background. Picture is somewhat faded. It has been identified by Arthur Slagel as the fuel bazaar in Alexandrovsk.

This family photograph is of Margaretha Janzen, nee Paetkau and Abram Janzen and their eight children, four girls and four boys.. The group is in front of a cloth curtain and behind it is the corner of a brick building. The infant on the mother's lap is the daughter, Justina. The other three girls are wearing long dark dresses each with a brooch at the neckline. The boys are all wearing buttoned-up jackets. The boy at the back, Abram, is wearing a lighter coloured jacket, the other three are dark. Two boys in front are sitting on wooden footstools. The mother, Margaretha, appears to be wearing a dark bonnet.
