She was born on April 10, 1902, at Neuhoffnung, Manitoba, on the Mennonite West Reserve. She attended high school at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) in Gretna, Manitoba, and then took nurses training at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, which she finished in 1927. She then worked in Chicago, Ill, at the Cook County Hospital and took night classes at Moody Bible Institute. She went on to study at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. She was ordained at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren church in 1929. In June 1929, she left for mission work in India where she served until 1962. She died on May 22, 1991, in Morden, Manitoba. Her funeral was held May 26, 1991, in Morden.

Warkentin, Johann, 1859-1948

Johann Warkentin, the son of Jakob Warkentin and Helena (nee Dyck) Warkentin was born in Nieder-Chortitza, South Russia in 1859. He immigrated to Winkler, Manitoba in 1879 and married Sara Loewen (1860-1930) in 1881. Warkentin taught school for eight years. He was the teacher at Hoffnungsfeld, Manitoba when Elder Heinrich H. Voth and David Dyck first came from the United States as itinerating ministers of the Mennonite Brethren Church. Warkentin was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church in 1890. He soon became an active Sunday school worker and director of singing. The Winkler M.B. Church elected him to the ministry and ordained him in 1895. In 1906 he was entrusted with the pastoral leadership of the church, a work he fulfilled until 1930. In addition he also frequently ministered in surrounding churches. Warkentin was active in the M.B. Conference, serving for some time on the Board of Directors for Foreign Missions. His daughter Helen became a missionary to India. After the death of his first wife, he married Elizabeth Hooge Dyck. Johann Warentin died at his home in Winkler on May 18, 1948.

-Born on November 28, 1876 in the village of Eichenfeld, Yazykovo Colony, Southern Russia. He was one of ten children born to Jakob and Anganeta (nee Toews) Peters. After attending the village school, Peters went on to complete high school at the Chortitza Zentralschule. He then did two years of pedagogical training and taught in Kornejewko for 12 years.
-Baptized by Isaak Dyck at age 20. Five years later he married Helen Heinrichs on January 12, 1902. Their marriage produced ten children, four of which died as children.
-Ordained to the ministry on November 22, 1920 by Aeltester Heinrich Epp.
-Immigrated to Canada in 1924, initially settling at Crystal City, Manitoba but then moving to the village Chortitz during the 1930s.
-Became members of the Gruenthal Mennonite Church where Peters served as song leader, teacher, and preacher until 1943.
-Moved to Steinbach where Peters served the Steinbach Mennonite Church until his death on April 12, 1961.
