Scope and content
Braght's Martyrs Mirror is 1290 pages long. After a lengthy introduction containing, among other things, the Mennonite Dordrecht Confession of Faith of 1632, it is divided into 2 parts. The first part is the story of Christian martyrdom from the time of Christ to 1500. The second part is longer and deals mostly with Anabaptists and Mennonites. It includes 803 named martyrs, 613 killed in the Netherlands and Belgium, and 190 in other European countries, and also numerous anonymous martyrs. The Martyrs Mirror is primarily a document of the Low German branch of the Mennonites (Dutch, Prussian, Russian) rather than the Swiss and South German, although it contains stories of significant Swiss and South German martyrs such as Felix Manz and Michael Sattler.
